Michael Cerio
Interim Chief Executive Officer
Michael Cerio has over 20 years’ experience as an operator in pharma, biotech, and diagnostics with roles spanning commercial strategy, sales, M&A, and operations. He led business development and M&A for Genzyme’s reference lab diagnostic business, and served as CCO for Signal Genetics, leading sales & marketing of novel genomic diagnostics. As President and COO of CymogenDx he repositioned the company’s ISH reagent portfolio, and led the sale of the company in 2015 to Biocare Medical. While serving as CBO and President, Pharma Services of Biocare Medical, Mr. Cerio built a novel pharma clinical trial business (acquired in 2019 by global CRO Invicro) while helping grow the company’s antibody and ISH reagent business to $50M annually. He currently serves as an advisor to life science venture capital firms and as a consultant specializing in life science startups, strategic planning, product development, and commercial launch. He holds an MBA from Columbia University and an MS in cellular and molecular biology from University of Connecticut.

Robert Flaumenhaft

Robert Flaumenhaft received his MD and PhD from NYU School of Medicine, completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), and received an MMS from Harvard Medical School. He is currently a Professor at Harvard Medical School and Chief of the Division of Hemostasis and Thrombosis at BIDMC. His laboratory focuses on platelet and endothelial biology and mechanisms of thrombus formation. He also cares for patients with bleeding or clotting disorders. His work in in the field of Hemostasis and Thrombosis has earned him a Junior Faculty Award from the American Society of Hematology, a Career Award from the Burroughs Welcome Fund, an Established Investigator Award from the American Heart Association, and an Outstanding Investigator Award from NIH.

David Barrios
VP of Product Development
David Barrios was the first employee at PlateletDiagnostics, joining in 2019 as a Senior Scientist and advancing to Vice President of Product Development in 2024. Over his tenure, he has been instrumental in building the company’s scientific foundation, leading assay development, and driving the translation of platelet biology into a scalable diagnostic platform. As VP of Product Development, he oversees product strategy, assay optimization, and development execution aligned with clinical and regulatory objectives. Prior to PlateletDiagnostics, Dr. Barrios completed a research fellowship at Harvard Medical School under the mentorship of Robert Flaumenhaft, where he focused on platelet biomarkers—work that directly informed the company’s core technology. Dr. Barrios served honorably in the United States Navy before pursuing his academic career. He holds a BS in Chemistry from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from North Carolina State University.
